Clear Lake - May 4

We had an excellent day for our first open water outing chasing walleye. We went to Clear Lake where the bite was pretty strong on the deeper flats and rock piles, which in this lake was only 12-14 feet. In the morning it was all drifting jigs and minnows, then late morning and early afternoon they would only hit jigs and plastics, and then after things slowed down considerably around 2:00, we switched to bottom bouncers and crawlers and got a couple more along with a bonus crappie.

We probably threw back about 15-20 smaller fish but still managed to get a limit of 14-18 inch walleye within about four hours. There were a ton of boats out there either jigging, slip bobbering, pulling spinners, or pulling crankbaits, but even with all that pressure, the fish had just too much hunger after that long winter, and it was pretty fast and furious at times.
